Adobe Ships Photoshop® 5.0
Delivers Unprecedented Power, Flexibility and Control for Creative Professionals on Windows® and Macintosh

San Jose, Calif., (May 11, 1998) (Nasdaq:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated is now shipping Photoshop 5.0 software, the newest and most powerful version of the world's best-selling professional image-editing product. Photoshop is the preferred image-editing tool for more than 80% of the world's creative professionals. The English version of the new release is available immediately on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. French and German versions will be released later this month, and the Japanese version is scheduled to ship in June. All other languages will be shipped in subsequent months.

Photoshop 5.0 software is the richest Photoshop release ever and offers tremendous gains in productivity, precision, and control. Major new features including Multiple Undo, Editable Text, Enhanced Color Management and Spot-Color Channel Support have helped version 5.0 win early kudos from graphic designers, photographers and other creative professionals. "The new Photoshop 5.0 saves me a phenomenal amount of time," says celebrity photographer Douglas Kirkland, a longtime Photoshop user. "With the Magnetic Lasso and Multiple Undo, I can now literally do in four days what I used to do in five and still maintain the highest standards."

Kazia Sealy, a graphic designer and webmaster at Time Inc., uses Adobe® Photoshop in conjunction with other Adobe products including Adobe Illustrator®, After Effects®, Adobe Image Library, PageMaker®, PageMill®, and now ImageReady® software, as part of a complete digital imaging solution that addresses her creative needs for animation and the Web. "Adobe's product line is so superior," says Sealy. "With Adobe products, I know whatever I create will look its absolute best."

In the past six weeks, Adobe has announced four new digital imaging products: Adobe Premiere 5.0, ImageReady 1.0, Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 1.0 and Photoshop 5.0. These software applications significantly enhance Adobe's digital imaging solutions for a broad range of customers including corporate users, consumers, and creative professionals. With a few clicks of a mouse, an image created for print or the Web can be easily modified, repurposed, and integrated into powerful, effective communications.

"Photoshop 5.0 is a compelling example of why more creative professionals choose Adobe's integrated digital imaging solutions, said Bryan Lamkin, vice president of marketing for Adobe's graphics products division. "Adobe Photoshop is the unparalleled leader in professional image editing. Combined with other Adobe products, it saves time, offers freedom to experiment, and guarantees predictable, professional results. Whether customers need to create images for the Web or make a corporate annual report stand out, Adobe provides digital imaging solutions that help companies and individuals make their messages look great -- in any medium."
