San Jose, Calif., (May 18, 1998) (Nasdaq:ADBE) -- Bringing truly professional video editing to the desktop in an affordable way, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced today the immediate availability of Adobe® Premiere® 5.0 software for the Windows® 95, Windows NT® and Power Macintosh platforms. The latest version of Adobe's award-winning program is a powerful tool for professional digital video editing which fulfills the most demanding needs of small video studios, industrial video professionals, event videographers, and multimedia and Web developers.

Customers can purchase Adobe Premiere 5.0 through authorized Adobe resellers and retail outlets at an estimated street price of $599. Registered users of earlier versions of Adobe Premiere -- both full and LE -- can upgrade to the powerful new capabilities of Premiere 5.0 for only $199. Upgrades can be purchased directly from Adobe by calling (800) 833-6687 or by visiting http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/main.html.

With its streamlined interface and high-end production features, Adobe Premiere 5.0 offers video professionals an unprecedented level of productivity, control and flexibility in one affordable video editing toolset. The new Monitor window in Premiere 5.0 allows users to edit video using a Source/Program metaphor, which resembles the way monitors function in a conventional editing bay. Users can perform high-end editing techniques such as 3-point editing, slip and slide, and keyframe audio and video filters. Other feature highlights of Premiere 5.0 include enhanced Edit Decision List (EDL) support, long-format editing tools and 32 levels of undo. (Visit http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/main.html for more feature information.)

"Adobe Premiere 5.0 combines professional editing capabilities and high quality output in a product that's easy to use and versatile," said Wade Johnston, multimedia artist, Hallmark Cards, Inc. "With its elegant new interface and powerful toolset, Premiere 5.0 really delivers for Hallmark." Adobe Premiere 5.0 works together with Adobe Photoshop®, Adobe Illustrator® and Adobe After Effects® to provide an integrated, professional digital video solution that enables users to easily and affordably put their ideas in motion. Now, with Premiere 5.0, video professionals can rely on the Adobe standard menus, tabbed palettes and keyboard shortcuts they already know from Adobe's other award-winning products.

To expand the breadth of Premiere 5.0 for users, Adobe has worked with a number of other industry leaders to include additional tools with Premiere 5.0 at no extra charge. The "Total Premiere" training video, produced by Total Training, helps users get up and running quickly on Adobe Premiere and its new features. The inclusion of plug-ins -- Digigami's MegaPeg, Microsoft's NetShow ASF and RealNetworks RealVideo encoder -- extend the output capabilities of Premiere 5.0 by providing users with full MPEG 1 encoding and decoding and allowing them to produce streaming video and audio for the Web, CD-ROM and VideoCD. In addition, Terran Interactive's Media Cleaner EZ program enables users to optimize movies for the Web and CD-ROM.
