Adobe Systems Named by FORTUNE as One of the 100 Best Companies To Work For In America
San Jose, Calif., (January 10, 2000) (Nasdaq:ADBE)--Adobe Systems Incorporated was named in today’s issue of FORTUNE magazine as one of the 100 best companies to work for in America, ranking 42nd in an impressive list of companies who attract some of the nation’s best and brightest employees. The rankings are currently available at www.fortune.com.

FORTUNE applauded the 100 best companies for providing exceptional services to help employees balance their home and work lives. FORTUNE cited Adobe’s employee benefit of 30 hours per year of professional training as a unique perk, as well as its generous offer of three weeks paid sabbatical every five years. Adobe attracted 30 percent more applicants than the typical company on this year’s list. Adobe’s ranking in 2000 climbed fourteen points from 1998, the first year the list was published.

In addition to making the FORTUNE list, Adobe was recognized as one of America’s leading digital companies by Harris Interactive in December 1999. The firm’s annual RQ Digital 40 is a ranking of the reputations of the 40 companies that the online public perceives as leaders in digital technology; Adobe ranked 24th. The RQ is calculated from respondent ratings about each company’s emotional appeal, products and services, financial performance, vision and leadership, workplace environment, and social responsibility. More information about the RQ Digital 40 can be found at www.reputationquotient.com.

"Adobe’s industry-leading stature enables us to attract talented people who are passionate about their work," said Theresa Townsley, senior vice president of Human Resources, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "Even in today’s tight labor market, we continue to hire and, more importantly, retain employees who thrive in our creative work environment. In turn, employees are rewarded with a choice of tailored benefits and opportunities to participate in the ownership and economic success of the company."

Assisted by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz, best-selling authors of The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America, FORTUNE probed 236 of more than 1,000 companies the authors have been tracking since 1981. To be eligible, a company had to be at least ten years old and have a minimum of 500 full-time employees. FORTUNE’s survey was employee-driven, with two-thirds of the scoring based on the answers 33,457 randomly selected employees gave on a survey conducted by the Great Places to Work Institute in San Francisco. The remaining third of the score reflected FORTUNE’s evaluation of the materials the companies presented to them.
