SEYBOLD, BOSTON, (April 10, 2001) --Adobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in Network Publishing, today announced the immediate availability of Adobe® Content Server 2.0, an end-to-end software solution that enables publishers, online content distributors and resellers to secure and sell Adobe Portable Document Format- (PDF) based eBooks. Through a browser-based interface, Adobe Content Server 2.0 links together key functions of the eBook supply chain for easy packaging, encryption and distribution of eBooks over the Internet. The Adobe Content Server 2.0 makes it simple for publishing professionals to leverage the advantages of their Adobe PDF assets. The product also includes Adobe PDF Merchant software to give customers a choice between EBX and PDF Merchant digital rights management schemes. With a few clicks, Adobe's solution enables content providers to encrypt their Adobe PDF files for immediate online sale as eBooks. The software works seamlessly with existing IT environments, enabling customers to secure intellectual property and tightly control digital rights and distribution. It also provides protection for copyright holders by allowing them to set rights and permissions, including whether content can be copied, printed or lent to other readers. "Adobe provides a secure software solution that meets the changing demands of digital distribution across all of publishing," said Matthew Moynahan, senior vice president and general manager, Reciprocal, Inc. "A great many of our clients hold their inventories in Adobe PDF, making the Adobe Content Server a simple and cost-effective solution." Adobe Content Server manages an online eBook marketplace of publishers, distributors, and retailers. Resellers can also use the system to sell eBooks directly to consumers. For example, a publisher using the Content Server could secure eBooks from their Adobe PDF library, encrypt and deliver them to an online reseller who would then use the Content Server to sell the eBooks to consumers.
