OfficeMax Standardizes on Adobe Software at its Nearly 1,000 CopyMax Centers Nationwide SAN JOSE, Calif., (September 20, 2001) (Nasdaq: ADBE)--Adobe Systems Inc., the leader in network publishing, today announced that OfficeMax, Inc. (NYSE: OMX) is standardizing its CopyMax® store-within-a-stores at nearly 1,000 locations nationwide on the full Adobe software suite which includes InDesign®, Photoshop®, Illustrator®, PageMaker®, and Acrobat®. CopyMax store-within-a-stores offer the latest digital technology for creating, enhancing, and printing documents. By implementing the full Adobe software suite and incorporating Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) into its workflow, CopyMax is providing high-quality services for customers and streamlining creation, management, and delivery of digital content. Because Adobe products offer a vast array of import filters, CopyMax will be able to better support the many native file formats brought to CopyMax centers for production, further enhancing customer service. "With an integrated Adobe tool set, CopyMax customers can use one workflow for a variety of media types and can rely on automated and efficient processes for document assembly and real-time updating," said Susan Altman Prescott, vice president of cross-media publishing at Adobe. "By working closely with Adobe, OfficeMax is streamlining its own publishing processes and at the same time delivering cutting-edge services to customers." Adobe InDesign is a key component of the new CopyMax solution. The tight integration between the elements in the Adobe software suite lets CopyMax associates easily incorporate artwork created in Photoshop or Illustrator into customer layouts. InDesign also encourages creativity and helps increase document quality by providing advanced drawing and typographical tools. Adoption of InDesign and an Adobe PDF workflow will also result in production efficiencies. CopyMax will be able to pre-flight customer documents in InDesign, making sure that fonts, colors, image formats and print settings are correct, reducing errors and delays during pre-press and printing. The Adobe solution will streamline the proofing process, because CopyMax associates will be able to output InDesign files to Adobe PDF and easily post them to the Web for client review. Using Adobe tools, CopyMax also will find it easier to re-purpose customer content for delivery to a variety of media. In addition to standardizing on Adobe software in its CopyMax centers, the company said OfficeMax has joined the Adobe Solutions Network (ASN) to help grow its business, obtain in-depth product information and support, and take advantage of joint marketing and CopyMax associate training activities with Adobe.
