Additional Professional Layout Tools, Including Two Selected as Seybold "Hot Picks," Open New Creative Possibilities for InDesign 2.0 Customers SAN JOSE, Calif., (September 24, 2001) (Nasdaq: ADBE)--In support of today's introduction of Adobe® InDesign® 2.0, a professional layout and design program, a large number of leading global third-party developers have committed to deliver complementary add-on solutions that build on the innovative new features offered in the product. Using the open architecture of InDesign, plug-in software from leading developers, including two companies that were chosen as Seybold "Hot Picks", will further extend the functionality of InDesign 2.0. (For InDesign 2.0 product details, please see the related product announcement made today.) "The growing number of third-party developers creating plug-in products for InDesign underscores the value of InDesign in the creative workflow," said Susan Altman Prescott, vice president of cross media publishing at Adobe. "Designers in ad agencies, book publishing, newspapers, magazines, or other specialized markets will clearly benefit from the focused capabilities that plug-ins deliver." Independent software vendors (ISVs) including, GLUON, Virginia Systems, ALAP, Datalogics, Managing Editor, Em Software, Enfocus Software, SoftCare, Callas Software and Woodwing Software are all rapidly taking advantage of Adobe InDesign to develop new features and applications that can be easily integrated with existing InDesign workflows. The nature of InDesign 2.0 allows third-party developers to create products that continue to give users the tools they need to get the job done. The release of the new version of InDesign has inspired developers and systems integrators to create a host of new supporting products. Plug-ins for InDesign 2.0 from Managing Editor and SoftCare were chosen as "Hot Picks" at the Seybold show in San Francisco. Managing Editor's TruEdit is a print production workflow tool for the broad publishing market that is built around Adobe's text-editing and pagination tools, InCopy and InDesign. SoftCare, a German integrator, has developed the K4 Publishing System using Adobe InDesign and InCopy to allow different groups of people to simultaneously edit and layout pages. Other established developers that have created new add-on solutions include GLUON, Inc. and Virginia Systems. Both companies have been developing products for InDesign since it first launched in March 1999. GLUON, Inc. has developed a line of InDesign software add-ons that are designed to improve productivity and organizational management. Those products include Cropster, Slugger, and ProScale. "Adobe is known in the design community for its commitment to customers and developers," said Peter McClard, chief executive officer of GLUON, Inc. "The rich development environment in InDesign and the willingness of Adobe to open the application to third-party partners like us, help position InDesign to become the leading design tool for creative professionals." Virginia Systems has released and updated its series of Sonar Bookends products including InDex and InDex Pro (both automatic indexing products), InFnote (footnote management), and InXref (cross-referencing tool). All of these products are designed for publishers that need to create complex documents. "Adobe InDesign is an open tool that gives developers any number of possibilities for adding to the software's functionality," said Philip Van Cleave, president of Virginia Systems. "Another advantage is the strong support that Adobe provides to developers. They respond quickly to our questions, and we feel supported throughout the entire process."
