New Version Leverages Acrobat 5.0 Technology, Provides IT and Creative Professionals Greater Adobe PDF Conversion Control SAN JOSE, Calif., (December 17, 2001) (Nasdaq: ADBE)—Adobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in network publishing, today announced Adobe® Acrobat® Distiller® Server 5.0 software. The new product provides workgroups and corporations a centralized, server-based solution for high-volume Adobe PostScript® to Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file conversion. Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 gives IT and creative professionals greater control over large-scale Adobe PDF creation through enhanced document security options, sophisticated font and language support, tools for simplified administration, and support for the eXtensible Markup Language (XML). "The performance gains in Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 are outstanding. The product helps free up space on servers so they can handle more requests and improve the level of service users enjoy," said Matt Angell, vice president of product development, Saepio Technologies, Inc., a Kansas City, Mo. based business that offers a Web-based system for creating and distributing customized ads, marketing brochures and other business collateral. "Regardless of the volume of documents converted, Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 produces high-quality, compact Adobe PDF files from our Web-enabled customization engine. Pricing and Availability Acrobat Distiller Server 5.0 is expected to ship by the end of January 2002 in English, French, German, and Japanese versions for Windows NT®4.0 with service pack 5 or 6, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and in English for Sun Solaris™ 2.6, 7 and 8, and Red Hat® Linux® 6.x and 7.1. The product will be offered in 100-user and unlimited-user versions and will be available through the Adobe Open Options licensing programs, from the company's OEM and ISV partners, and via the Adobe.com Web site. Pricing for 100 users will begin at an estimated street price of US$5,000, with licensing pricing for larger purchases as low as US$4,250. Pricing for unlimited users will begin at an estimated street price of US$15,000, with licensing pricing as low as US$12,750.
