Adobe InDesign 2.0 Now Available

Major Upgrade Sets New Standards for Professional Layout and Design; Includes Hundreds of New Features and Performance Improvements

SAN JOSE, Calif. — January 21, 2002 (NASDAQ: ADBE) — Adobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in network publishing, today announced the immediate availability of Adobe® InDesign® 2.0 software, Adobe's professional layout and design program. Version 2.0 introduces editable transparency effects such as drop shadows, table creation, long document support, extensible markup language (XML) import/export support and a greatly enhanced printing interface.

"InDesign 2.0 offers so many incredible new features," said Sandee Cohen, author and graphics applications instructor. "From transparency and drop shadows to tables, InDesign 2.0 delivers exciting creativity tools, plus tons of features for increasing productivity. The tight integration between InDesign and Photoshop lets me import native Photoshop files without flattening them, and all of the silhouettes I create in Photoshop are recognized in InDesign."

Trainers and book publishers are now gearing up for this powerful new release with updated materials to help customers make the switch. Third-party developers are producing an array of new plug-ins to support designers' specialized needs. Service providers worldwide helped to define requirements for the refined new printing interface and are now preparing to accept InDesign files. InDesign 2.0 also enables creative professionals to more effectively create, manage and deliver visually rich content to multiple channels including print, Web, eBooks and PDAs. In addition, this upgrade supports Adobe's XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform) technology, an XML-based framework for embedding, tracking and exchanging metadata so that content can be deployed more efficiently across different media.
