Accessibility captioning

Hi-Caption SE

Captions make it possible for users who do not have the ability to hear the audio portion of a multimedia presentation to grasp its content. This white paper will introduce the reader to closed captions. Using HiSoftware Hi-Caption SE you will learn how to add closed captions to rich media created with Adobe® Flash® CS3 Professional software.

To follow this white paper, you will need HiSoftware Hi-Caption SE for use with Adobe Flash, and Adobe Flash CS3 Professional.

If you do not have a copy of Hi-Caption for use with Adobe Flash you can download an evaluation copy from the HiSoftware website.

The white paper uses demo assets that can be downloaded from the HiSoftware website.

A tool for captioning multimedia

Adobe and the National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) have formed a partnership to provide developers with innovative resources for creating accessible media. NCAM provides a powerful, easy-to-use, free tool called MAGpie for captioning multimedia files.

Developers of web and CD-ROM multimedia need an authoring tool for making their materials accessible to people with disabilities. MAGpie allows developers to add closed captions and audio descriptions to multimedia in two popular formats: Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) for RealMedia and QuickTime, and Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) for Microsoft's Windows Media Player. MAGpie is available at no charge. Complete information about MAGpie, including an online tutorial and examples of accessible multimedia, can be found on the NCAM website.

Download your free version of MAGpie from NCAM.

Funding for MAGpie is provided by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.
