How many times have you had to catalog every object on the page in your head and then send each one, in the correct sequence, to the back of the page so that the layering is correct? Now you can assign objects to layers and arrange the top to bottom sequencing with the Layers palette.

Step 1. Create the layers you expect to use in the Layers palette.

Step 2. As you place objects on the page, they will be assigned to the currently selected layer. You can place the copy on your "copy" layer and so forth.

Step 3. Sequence the layers as you like so that the top-to-bottom arrangement is correct by clicking and dragging the layers in the Layer palette.
