Adobe® LiveCycle® Data Services ES software enables you to be productive in creating scalable and high-performance rich Internet applications (RIAs). Review these frequently asked questions to get a better understanding of the product and various options available to you.
LiveCycle Data Services ES is a commercially available enterprise-class data services product that integrates RIAs with LiveCycle services, J2EE applications, and business logic. It provides scalable server-side remoting and messaging along with powerful data management services. See the features and benefits for more details.
LiveCycle Data Services Community Edition is an annual subscription to the certified builds of BlazeDS software, so organizations can take advantage of open source BlazeDS and still receive enterprise-level support for business-critical applications.
BlazeDS is an open source version of Adobe's server-side remoting and messaging technologies, previously only available commercially in LiveCycle Data Services ES. It does not include support or data management services; the remoting is suitable for applications that do not need high scalability.
The latest release provides new and enhanced features in the areas of LiveCycle ES Foundation integration, RTMP performance and scalability, scalable HTTP-based channel, and data management enhancements. These include support for complex object models, even greater performance and scale for offline use, and on-demand paging, which can provide increased application response time. A complete list of enhancements is located in the LiveCycle Data Services ES Update Center.
Compared with previous versions, LiveCycle Data Services ES version 2.6 can deliver up to three times more client connectivity per server. Similarly, customers will see significant improvements in data management capabilities and synchronization of data from offline applications.

Yes. LiveCycle Data Services ES Single-CPU License can be used for development or production, provided applications are not deployed on more than one CPU.
Developers can build and deploy one or more production applications on a single-CPU, nonclustered machine as long as no single application is running in production on more than one CPU. A "single-CPU machine" is defined as a device with only one processor.
Adobe also currently offers a free download of LiveCycle Data Services ES Trial Developer License, which may be used for developing RIAs to run on multiple CPUs. When you're ready to put RIAs into production, contact your Adobe sales representative to purchase a runtime license with optional maintenance and support services.
A single application can be deployed on one CPU. LiveCycle Data Services ES Single-CPU License does not permit the deployment of any single application on multiple, disconnected CPUs, including kiosks and other such devices, or applications running in a cluster configuration.
For licensing purposes, an application is defined as both the SWF file downloaded from the server and the instance of LiveCycle Data Services ES Single-CPU License running on the server. Together, these make up the application. Developers can deploy as many individual applications as they want with LiveCycle Data Services ES Single-CPU License, as long as each individual application is only deployed on a single physical CPU, subject to the kiosk restrictions previously mentioned.
For instance, you may run more than one Flex application on a single-CPU machine with LiveCycle Data Services ES Single-CPU License, as long as each unique application only runs on a single CPU.
Yes. Individual developers can run this version on multiprocessor workstations as long as those systems are not being used in production. The "single-CPU" distinction is simply to help differentiate between "development" and "production" environments, as many production-based workstations have multiple CPUs.
Alternatively, you can download the LiveCycle Data Services ES trial, which can be used to develop on multiple CPUs.
