Use Smart Objects to link to Illustrator files
page: 1 2 3
You can use Adobe® GoLive® Smart Objects to create a link from your Web page to your Adobe Illustrator® image file. GoLive lets you use the same conversion settings that are in Illustrator to export the Illustrator file to a Web image file format—in addition to bitmapped images, when you have Illustrator on your computer you can save the image in SVG, SVG Compressed, and SWF formats.
Whenever you double-click the Smart Illustrator Object in the page, GoLive opens the original image file in Illustrator. Changes you make in the Illustrator file are automatically updated in the Web image on your page.

Prepare your image file.
In Illustrator, create your image file. It’s a good idea to make it nearly the same size that it will appear on the Web page so it’ll be easier to work with in GoLive. Then place the image file in your site folder.
step01_int
Add a Smart Illustrator Object to your Web page.
In GoLive, drag the Smart Illustrator icon from the Smart set in the Objects palette onto your Web page. GoLive creates a Smart Illustrator Object placeholder for the image.
step02_int
Link the Smart Object to the Illustrator image and choose a conversion setting.
In the Smart Illustrator Image Inspector, use the Source Point and Shoot button to link the Smart Object to your Illustrator file. If you don’t have Illustrator on your computer, GoLive opens the Save For Web dialog box. If you do have Illustrator on your computer, GoLive opens the Conversion Settings dialog box—choose a format for the Web image and click OK. In this example, we chose the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format.
