Use Smart Objects to link to Photoshop files
page: 1 2 3
Adobe® GoLive® Smart Objects give you a two-way connection to your Adobe Photoshop® image files—letting you create optimized Web images based on the original Photoshop image, and letting you open and edit the original Photoshop image by double-clicking any of its Smart Objects in the page.
Changes you make to the Smart Objects on the Web page or to the linked Photoshop source files are instantly updated in the Web image files.
A single Photoshop image can serve as the source for multiple images on your Web page.

Prepare the Web page, and add containers for the images.
In GoLive, add floating boxes from the Basic set in the Objects palette to your Web page for holding the Web images. (You can also use a layout grid or table cells to contain the images.) We’re using four floating boxes so the images can overlap in this example.
step01_int
Add the Smart Photoshop Objects to the page.
Select each floating box and drag a Smart Photoshop icon from the Smart set in the Objects palette into the container. GoLive creates a Smart Photoshop Object placeholder for the image.
step02_int
Link and optimize the Web images.
Select a Smart Photoshop Object placeholder in the page. In the Smart Photoshop Image Inspector, use the Source Point and Shoot button to link the placeholder to the Photoshop file. (If the Variable Settings dialog box appears, click OK to close it. GoLive displays this dialog box when a Photoshop file contains a text layer at the top of the layers.) The Save For Web dialog box opens so you can optimize and save the Web image.
In the Save For Web dialog box, choose a format and optimization settings such as GIF 32 No Dither. You can reopen the Save For Web dialog box for a Web image at any time and change the settings, so for now, click OK to close it.
In the Save dialog box, locate your site folder, name the Web image file, and click Save.
Link each placeholder to the Photoshop file and save each optimized image with a different name.
