Hacking Structured FrameMaker with ExtendScript

September 12, 2014

Structured FrameMaker XML is extensible on many levels using common features available w/in this powerful editor. One more area that grants the user “special powers” is ExtendScript. Widely recognized FrameMaker and XML expert Chris Despopoulos will join us from Europe to show several vibrant examples on how you can "go" even further than you could imagine with XML structure in FrameMaker. As with his previous webinar, Chris will have several sample files and scripts that you can download during this live experience for your own hands on.

This session is based on using ExtendScript to "Walk the Structure Tree" -- loop through all the elements in your structured document. We'll explore uses of that basic technique to do things such as:

  • Get an array of elements of a certain type
  • Find all elements that are missing an ID value
  • Search through an EDD for the declaration of a specific element

Chris Despopoulos is a long time FrameMaker user and hacker.  He's is happy to share the benefits of ExtendScript!

Strategies to be a Successful Educator in a Digital Era

September 16, 2014

If we define success for a teacher as reaching all students effectively – perhaps the most important contribution that technology can offer is to provide solutions that can facilitate equal attention to a diverse range of students. In this session Dr. Partridge will demonstrate Adobe technologies used for flipping the learning experience and effectively tracking social and assessment data from students’ technology enabled lessons. Attendees will learn how anyone, student, teacher or administrator can easily create online course materials to help educators shift from a lecture centered learning experience, to a learner centered experience.

Engineered extensions of the body, such as intelligent prostheses, implants for enhanced perception and automated medical treatments are going to be the norm. Sess 4 Digital Learning : Individual Adaptive Construction or Connected Social Interaction?

Education technology is developing to include multiple media combinations, in order to deal with complexity of codes, content, interactions, and cognitive processes. Publishing XML from FrameMaker 12 to a “state-of-the-art” HTML5 eReader

December 10, 2014

Multi-channel publishing using XML is not a new concept. Industries like aerospace, automotive, legal, medical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, reference, government and education know the benefits of XML and its flexibility to adapt and change with new technologies.

HTML5 is a relatively new technology and has quickly gained momentum for developing enterprise applications, just ask the Financial Times. HTML5 is not holistic, but a group of technologies that relies on JavaScript and CSS to make it work. Offline storage usually hogs the limelight but it really is so much more.

eGloo Technologies has developed a “state-of-the-art” HTML5 eReader tekReader that consumes and displays content derived from custom XML and common vocabularies like DITA and S1000D. tekReader allows the user to read and interact with their data rich documents on popular mobile devices equipped with modern web browsers.

Built in responsive and adaptive design caters for document reading on any screen size … imagine opening up and viewing large wiring diagrams on a smartphone!  The XML content foundation also allows for MathML rendering and multiple language support. FrameMaker 12 is the perfect tool to create, edit and publish custom XML, DITA and S1000D directly to tekReader.

This session will look at:

  • A deep dive into HTML5
  • An overview of tekReader
  • Creating and editing FrameMaker 12 documents for tekReader
  • Publishing FrameMaker 12 documents to tekReader

About our Presenter: Don is the founder and CEO of eGloo Technologies. Since 2002 he has been responsible for formulating and managing eGloo's strategic direction while identifying and capitalising on business opportunities that leverage off the company's experience and skills. Since 1988 Don has been involved with document and information management systems based on structured languages. He has been extensively involved with planning, coordinating and delivering complex data conversion and application development projects within aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, military, legal, government, pharmaceutical and reference.

Don has a close association with Adobe and has been developing Structured FrameMaker applications since the early 90’s.
