The AutoComplete component adds inline text completion to input text in your Flash movie/application. Works the same way many desktop applications and operating systems do. INSTRUCTIONS: To use AutoComplete, simply drag and drop it onto a TextInput component, TextArea component, or any other input text. AutoComplete will automatically associate itself with the text field. Any text typed into the field will be remembered. -- works with both version 2 components and native Flash text fields ! -- -- adds no visible parts at runtime and virtually nothing to the size of your document -- LICENSE: If you find AutoComplete useful, please consider donating to Global Images. We are a documentary film and design company and we are trying to gather funds for a great new project. For more information please see our site www.globalimagesllc.com. To make a donation, please go to www.globalimagesllc.com/donate This was created to make your project more useable. You are free to use it any way you wish, but are not free to modify the code. Thanks, and enjoy. FEATURES: AutoComplete has a number of features and options available both while authoring and at runtime. You can choose, for instance, whether or not it is case sensitive. Choose the "unique" property to choose whether to provide the same completion for each text field (default) or to to work independently for a specific field. (For instance, set "unique" to "true" for a search field in your application to only show text completion for entries in that field.) AutoComplete works with Data Binding as well--for example, bind the "enabled" property of AutoComplete to a CheckBox component, letting the user decide whether to remember the text they entered. Because AutoComplete can work with even password fields, this is a particularly useful feature. AutoComplete can remember thousands of entries and has been designed to work quickly and efficiently. USAGE EXAMPLE: A person could type the name Justin Kelly into a text field; the next time they type the letter "j" the entire name would be filled in automatically. Continuing to type replaces the inserted text. If the name Jonathan Fitting is later entered, typing "j" displays "Jonathan Fitting", because AutoComplete gives the most recent entries precedence...continuing to type "ju" would then display "Justin Kelly". This works the same way it does in many desktop applications -- and now it's finally available for the Flash environment! AVAILABILITY: AutoComplete is built using ActionScript 2.0. It works with both version 2 components and native Flash text fields (input text). We are working on a Flex version which should be out soon. Check http://www.globalimagesllc.com/design for updates. A new version of AutoComplete is also in the works, providing Internet Explorer-like functionality, including automatic drop-down lists for entries. It will have this inline version built-in, so you can choose a drop-down list or inline completion. AutoComplete version 3.0 will be available for purchase at http://globalimagesllc.com/design DETAILS: To use the drag and drop feature, drop the component with the mouse pointer in the midst of the object you wish to snap to. You will notice that snapping has worked when the component's _targetInstanceName field changes to the object's instance name. (If the target does not have an instance name, AutoComplete will name it for you.) You can always manually choose the text field you want to manage by changing the _targetInstanceName property to the instance name of a text field. To see the component align with its target, for more feedback and a cleaner workspace, make sure that snapping is turned on in your Flash workspace -- (View > Snapping > Snap to Objects).
