Autorun Utility

AutoRun Utility is a fast-launching C-coded application that was created to work with Microsoft's own autorun mechanism which is built in to all 32-bit Windows system. These systems look for a text file named AUTORUN.INF on a CD-ROM. AUTORUN.INF specifies which program to launch when the CD-ROM is inserted. A CD-ROM mastered with an AUTORUN.INF file that specifies AutoRun Utility as the launch program, will run AutoRun Utility when the CD-ROM is inserted and add capabilities to Windows autorun. AutoRun Utility can search for a registry entry to determine if software is installed and launch an installer if it isn't. AutoRun Utility can launch a document such as a PDF file with its parent app. AutoRun can also be used as a simple launcher for a program that does not require an install. The advantage of launching a program via AutoRun is that AutoRun prevents the program from launching multiple times. Director projectors are particularly prone to this problem because they take awhile to launch, which tempts the user to double-click them multiple times while waiting, resulting in multiple active copies. AutoRun.supports launching document files instead of program files. For instance, you could supply an HTML ".HTM" file with your product and specify that as the file to auto play AutoRun will locate whatever Web browser application is already installed on the user's system to handle ".HTM" files, and launch it with the supplied .HTM file. If you use HTML's "meta refresh" tag within that local HTML file, you can redirect the Webbrowser to an actual site on the Internet.
