I draw people in blue jeans a lot, and I hate pattern fills, you can TELL it's a pattern fill with denim.
My Solution, make a brush so I can paint it on a seperate layer and transform it so the pattern lines are going in the right direction!!
Thought I'd Share!
The Sample is BIG, I work in 300 dpi most of the time, brush reduces clean. Sample pic shows the pattern at 500 pixels (center) and 750 pixels border. With a quick dodge and burn effect added to show wear and tear effects.
Enjoy!

Very useful brush, definitely gives a more natural look than a pattern fill.
