Offering Detail

Just downloaded this to see if would be something I'd want my daughter to use. First off, it is beautifully done. The artwork is stellar. The connection to the store was simple and easy to use. Accessing downloaded content was painless and again, easy to figure out. I also like that the accounts are hidden behind the randomly generated usernames (which are quite comical).

The only problem with this tool is the dearth of content.

It appears that only one writer/illustrator team has created the entire list of available books. Again, high production values are apparent, but with only a dozen or so books and a couple of activities, the well is going to dry up fast.

My only other reservation is one that I've been trying desperately to find... that is to find e-books that read aloud as these do, but offer a word-for-word highlight that I've only seen in old CD-ROM titles like Brodubund's "Aurther's Teacher Trouble". These "readers" not only read the story, but offered word-by-word hightlightning to allow preschoolers to "see" the words being spoken. I researched Tumbleweed's e-books and they come close - they highlight the entire sentence.

My rating would be a five just for the quality of work put into this product. I'm taking two points off for the lack of content. I'll give one point back if they can manage the task of word-by-word" highlighting and an additional if they can do it in both English and Spanish.

This application is fantastic! My children spend hours learning and reading. We really love it.

What a great app! There is free content, it's fast and really well done. I can see kids in K-2 really enjoying this. I'm going to go put it on my kids computers.

Truly, a wonderful, highly creative tool for our children's education! It is stimulating, fun, and it shows kids the importance and the need of values in life. Indeed, lovely!

To this end, we do in fact offer our Sam's Interactive Reader and our entire library to schools, pre-k's and public libraries absolutely FREE of charge. It is fare to say that we charge for our stories through our retail channel. The majority of our current content is originally written and illustrated. It can not be found anywhere else in the world except through Sam's Interactive Reader. These sales are what affords us the ability to offer this very lucrative school and library program- unlike anyone else out there.

You may find it interesting to note that many other services, such as the one you mentioned, charge schools and libraries for their products. So even though you may enjoy the product for free, the school and public library budgets are being impacted in an adverse way because of it.

I can't believe this company charges parents so that kids can read books. I can read some very nice books for free from tumbleweed through my public library online. This is sad with the way illiteracy is in todays society. My son is in an IEP program and this would have been nice for him but I will stick with Tumbleweed and uninstall this program.
