Wanted: elegant online tools
Varun Buxi is a tech adventurer who likes to experiment with new technologies. As a graduate student in San Jose State University’s MBA program with a minor in technology, Varun believes that technology can make a positive difference in helping people communicate, if you can find the right tools.
A self-proclaimed techie, Varun uses both a Mac and a PC every day. In developing academic papers, he started out using Microsoft Office on both systems, but often found himself e-mailing drafts of papers back and forth between his computers—and then having difficulty tracking versions, as well as dealing with inconsistencies between documents appearing on both platforms.
Varun initially tried several online products for word processing, file sharing and storage, and real-time communications, but they mostly fell short. He reports that most services had clunky interfaces, or they required fellow students collaborating on projects to create too many document versions, resulting in confusion all around.
Seamless on Mac or PC
"I wanted to find a solution that would promote easy collaboration with other students, simplify version control, enforce accurate page numbering, and easily track endnotes—a must when writing college papers citing multiple sources," explains Varun. When he was using Microsoft Office, page numbers and endnotes sometimes got muddled when he moved documents between his Mac and PC. After finding Adobe Buzzword, Varun quickly discovered that he could write and edit academic documents seamlessly on either platform and collaborate easily with fellow students.

Better quality work
Varun believes Buzzword has the potential to help streamline collaboration among students and with faculty. When working together on projects, students can combine documents or work on the same document, without the confusion of emailing documents back and forth and trying to control document versions.
Says Varun, “Adobe Buzzword makes it easy to combine documents and get all the details right, then print the piece and hand it to the professor, complete with a high-quality layout. With Buzzword, I can produce better quality work.”
Currently, Varun is also experimenting with Adobe ConnectNow to host real-time meetings with students to discuss projects, and even to communicate periodically with his family in India using a webcam and audio conferencing. They also correspond using Buzzword.
“Buzzword offers powerful features in the context of a sleek, intuitive interface, making it enjoyable to work online to create documents,” explains Varun. “Using Buzzword is a wonderful experience.”
