Viewing and editing metadata

Metadata makes managing and searching assets more efficient. Add, edit, and search metadata in the Project panel and Metadata panel.
Requirements
To complete the tasks demonstrated in this tutorial, you need the following software and files:

Viewing and editing metadata
Asset management is a crucial component of working on any project. Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS4 and Adobe Bridge provide many options for storing information about your creative assets. In this tutorial, you will learn how to find, add, and delete metadata from Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Bridge.
Metadata in Adobe Premiere Pro
To access metadata in Adobe Premiere Pro:
- Select the Project panel. Press the tilde key in the upper-left corner of your keyboard. The Adobe Premiere Pro Project panel expands to display all of the metadata associated with your project files.
- Select a file and use the Tab key to move through the fields and review the kinds of metadata associated with that file. Note that Adobe Premiere Pro organizes metadata into properties.
- To add information such as a description to a file, click the field under the property where you would like to insert the data. A text box where you can your text opens.

- To add additional metadata or view properties that are not displayed in the Project panel, click the panel menu in the upper-right corner of the Adobe Premiere Pro window.
- Select the Metadata Display from the panel menu. The Metadata Display dialog box opens.
Note: The Metadata Display groups file properties into categories called schema. File metadata is located in a schema called Premiere Project Metadata.

- Click the arrow next to Premiere Project Metadata to expand the schema and view all the available properties for the file. Check Comment. The Comment property now appears in the Project panel.
- To add a group of custom properties, click New Schema. A dialog box prompting you to name and save the schema opens.
- Enter Company as your new schema.
- To add a property to Company, click Add Property. A dialog box prompting you to name the property opens. Enter Contact Name in the Name box.

- You can also designate the type of data the property represents. Select Text from the Type menu. Click OK to apply the changes.
- To delete a property, click Delete next to the property.
- Return to the Property panel and tab over until you see the Property columns you just added.

Tip: You can also search for metadata by using the search bar in the Project panel. Simply type the first few letters of the property name or value to search and filter through the results.
Metadata in Adobe Bridge
Not only is an extensive amount of metadata available in Adobe Premiere Pro, but this metadata can also be seen in other applications such as Adobe Bridge. To view Adobe Premiere Pro project metadata in Adobe Bridge:
- Start Adobe Bridge by choosing File > Browse In Adobe.
Note: Adobe Bridge is included with Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Bridge gives you the ability to locate any file you want and serves as the creative hub for Adobe CS4 applications.
- In the Content panel in Adobe Bridge, navigate to the file to which you added metadata in Adobe Premiere Pro. Metadata associated with the file is displayed in the Metadata panel in the lower-right corner of the default Adobe Bridge workspace.
- Choose Company Info from the Metadata panel. Notice there is the box for entering a Contact Name. This field is editable in Adobe Bridge.

- Click the Apply icon, the green checkmark at the bottom of the Metadata panel, to apply any changes you may have made.
Note: Metadata travels with the file from Adobe Premiere Pro to Adobe Bridge and can be used in other Adobe applications as well.

- You can also search on metadata in Adobe Bridge using slightly more advanced Find functionality. To locate all the files associated with a particular author or contact, choose Edit > Find. The Find dialog box opens.
- Under Criteria select All Metadata and Contains. Enter the name of the person. Click Find. All of the files associated with that person are displayed in the Content panel.
