Creating a lens flare with the Zoom blur Live Filter

You can also use the Zoom blur Live Filter to create a flare:

  1. Create a new document in Fireworks.
  2. Repeat steps 2 through 8 in “Creating a lens flare with the Star Auto Shape.”
 Zoom blur Live Effect.

Figure 5: Add a Zoom blur Live Effect.

  1. Click the Filters: [+] button in the Property inspector, and then choose Blur > Zoom Blur to add a Zoom blur Live Filter. Set the Amount and Quality properties to 100.

Note: If you apply a Gaussian Blur with the quality set to 100%, you might experience slight performance issues as you move the flare around the canvas. To prevent this from happening, turn the blur effect off in the Property inspector or add it at the end of the design process.

Where to go from here

Download the Custom Star command, which generates basic star shapes for you. After you install the command, apply it to a rectangle object the size of your canvas, and then adjust the level properties (in the Property inspector) to change the appearance of the stars.
