Microsoft released updates to Internet Explorer that changes how the browser handles active content such as that viewed in Adobe Flash Player, Authorware Player, Shockwave Player, and Adobe Reader, as well as Sun Java, Apple QuickTime, RealNetworks RealPlayer and other ActiveX controls.
When users encounter embedded content in Internet Explorer, some might see a tooltip with the text “Click to activate and use this control”, as shown in Figure 1. Active content that you embed in HTML pages in certain ways will not be able to receive user input (for example, keyboard or mouse events) until the user clicks to either activate or continue loading the control.
Using JavaScript modifications, developers can modify their existing websites so that their user experience is not impacted by the changes that Microsoft made to Internet Explorer. The following resources include available downloads, extensions, and tutorials on how to embed content so it can receive user input immediately, instead of seeing a tooltip and activating the content manually.
