Flash Video workflow and encoding video
The Flash Video (FLV) file format contains encoded audio and video data for delivery by using Flash Player. Macromedia
Flash video lets you easily put video on a web page in a format that almost anyone can view. You can embed FLV files
in your websites using Flash 8 using a component or a Video object, Dreamweaver 8 using the Flash Video component.
Also, you can output FLV files from a variety of tools including Adobe After Effects 7.0 and deliver FLV files using
Flash Media Server.
Working with FLV video in tools like Flash and Dreamweaver can take some practice. A few troubleshooting tips for
common issues include:
- Do you see a white box where your SWF file should be? Do you hear audio, but no video plays?
Make sure you view your application in a browser with the targeted Flash Player version installed.
For example, if you encode your video using the VP6 codec, make sure you view your application
in Flash Player 8 or later.
- Don’t see video controls? If you’re using the FLVPlayback component, make sure that you upload
your skin SWF file to the web server along with your application’s SWF file for the component
to work properly.
- FLV doesn’t work on your server, but everything works fine on your hard drive? Make sure that
your host’s server is configured
for FLV files.
- Testing your application in Flash MX 2004 with a new FLV file, and it’s not working? Your FLV
file might need to play in Flash Player 8 to display properly, and the test environment uses Flash
Player 7. Test your application in Flash Player 8 or later.
