Managing Audio for Breeze Live Events with Local and Remote Presenters

In this article, I review the configuration, testing, and use of audio components in a Macromedia Breeze Live event in which the local audience can hear the remote presenters and the remote audiences can hear the local presenters, who are also amplified for a large local audience. This article gives Breeze technicians a blueprint for running the audio for this type of Breeze Live event.

After reading this article, you will be able to manage and troubleshoot the signal flow to ensure the highest quality audio experience for the live audience and remote Breeze listeners. By choosing the right equipment, knowing a few operational tips, and taking a few precautionary steps, you can run an event and successfully problem solve any issues that arise.

Prerequisite Knowledge:

  • A working knowledge of Breeze Live and experience running a Breeze Live event.
  • Familiarity with desktop audio mixers and knowledge of some basic audio vocabulary: volume, panning, channel volume, fader, mic gain, attenuation.
  • An ability to recognize the most common audio connector types (RCA, XLR, 1/4" – speaker cable, 1/8"- mini plug).

Chad Grochowski is an independent digital media-maker & audio engineer with passion for innovative ideas and a fascination with the evolution of culture. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a virtual double major in Physics and Philosophy in 1993, he moved to the Bay Area to develop his musical ear and photographic eye. He became a professional in documentary film and video production in 1996, and his services have been in demand by feature, broadcast, corporate, and independent clients ever since. His recent film, for which he was a Producer and the Director of Photography, was entitled All Men Are Sons, and premiered on PBS in 2002. In addition, Chad has directed and produced several promotional films for educational institutions such as The Oxbow School in Napa, CA, The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers in Andover, MA., and the California Institute for Professional Development (CPDI).
