This article describes how to use the Learning Management System (LMS) Knowledge Objects (KOs) to create AICC and SCORM-Compliant content with Macromedia Authorware 7.

The example you will create in this article demonstrates some of the capabilities of the basic version of the LMS KOs. It is not meant to demonstrate all of the functionality available in Authorware or the LMS KOs.

This document will demonstrate:

  • Basic communication with any LMS (and whether a communication occurred)
  • Resume functionality or tracking where the user left off
  • How to use variables to track progress

This document will not demonstrate:

  • Best usage cases (I won’t discuss how and when to send tracking data to an LMS.)
  • Detailed information on the AICC or SCORM standards

This article refers to new features available in Authorware 7, which help with the authoring, testing and packaging of AICC and SCORM-compliant content. While it is possible to create compliant content without using all of these features or by using previous versions of Authorware, this article focuses on features in Macromedia Authorware 7. Note that additional resources are available at the end of this article.
