Macromedia Captivate allows you to create rich, optimized software demonstrations, assessments, simulations, and quizzes with minimal effort. As with any rich content delivered through the web, published file size is an important consideration for many content developers.

Larger file sizes can cause an increase in download time which will adversely affect end users' experiences. An increase in download time increases the chances that users become frustrated and leave your content before viewing it.

Many web hosting companies and Internet service providers still charge for bandwidth usage so you must take file size into consideration. Decreasing the file size of your project decreases the amount of bandwidth your application or content uses.

Although Captivate optimizes its files, the goal of this article is to help you further reduce the file size of your Captivate demonstrations and simulations. In this article, I show you what to do during recording, editing, and publishing to reduce file size.
