Using the Captivate Knowledge Object in Authorware

Setting Up the Captivate File

Let’s see how this works by starting with a simple one-question quiz.

  1. Create a new Captivate file and choose the Blank movie template at a size of 800 x 600.
  2. Select Insert > Question Slide.
  3. The Question Type dialog box will appear. Select Multiple Choice from the subsequent dialog box. The Multiple Choice Question dialog box appears (Figure 1).
  4. Create a multiple-choice interaction with one correct answer by typing a question and a few answers. Be sure to select the correct answer (radio button) and keep the Single answer style selected in the Style pop-up menu.
  5. Click the Quiz… button at the bottom of the dialog box. The Quiz Manager dialog box will appear (Figure 2).

Note: You can also get to the Quiz Manager by choosing Movie > Quiz Manager.

  6. With the Reporting tab selected, select the Enable Output Options option.
  7. Select the Authorware option.
  8. Important: See the Separator box. If you typically use a semicolon as a list separator in Authorware, change the comma (,) to a semicolon (;).
  9. Click OK to close the Quiz Manager dialog box.
  10. Click OK to close the Multiple Choice Question dialog box.
  11. Select Publish from the toolbar. Title your movie and export the movie as a Flash movie file (SWF). You do not need to export the HTML files.
