Output Options in Captivate – Part 1: An Overview of Tracking Options

Recording or Creating a Captivate File with Interactivity

Captivate has the ability to track interactivity though a number of interaction types, such as multiple choice or true/false questions and interactive components, such as click box, text entry or buttons. This section assumes you are creating a new file and will add different types of interactive components for demonstration. Follow along, but feel free to experiment with other options available, even if I don't explicitly discuss them.

1. Start Captivate (or if Captivate is already started, select Record or create a new movie… from the File menu item).
2. In the New Movie Options dialog, select Blank Movie.
3. Keep the preset size in the Blank Movie dialog set to 640x480.
4. With the blank movie, select Insert > Text Caption… from the menu
5. Type Welcome (click anywhere to begin) in the Text Caption dialog box and click OK to save and close the dialog box.
6. Select Insert > Click Box… from the menu.

7. Click the Options tab and deselect the Success caption, Failure caption, and Hint caption options (Figure 1).

8. Click OK to save and close the dialog box.

9. Resize the click box to cover the entire screen area.

   Captivate includes a number of new question types that it supports. To add a new question:

10. Select Insert > Question Slide… from the menu.

11. In the Question Types dialog box, select Multiple choice (Figure 3).
12. Click OK to configure the question.
13. Type What is 1 + 1? for the Question text.
14. Enter 1, 2, 3 and 4 (respectively) as possible answers (Figure 4).

15. Select 2 as the correct answer (Figure 4).
