This document is part 2 of a larger series that reviews the new tracking options available in Macromedia Captivate. The tracking options aren’t exactly new, but the mechanism or the code behind the tracking options is new and the functionality has improved. This document focuses on the AICC (Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee) tracking mechanism—what’s new and what you need to know for a successful deployment of Captivate content in an AICC-compliant LMS. For more information, read Output Options in Captivate - Part 1: An Overview of Tracking Options.
This document does not discuss specific benefits of using an AICC-compliant Learning Management System (LMS), or integration with any specific AICC-compliant LMS. Check out the Macromedia Adobe Captivate Developer Center and the E-Learning topic center for more information on these topics and general information on the tracking options and mechanisms available in Captivate.
This document is appropriate for all types of users. It provides an overview for new users as well as an entry point for users looking for specific AICC information/integration issues with Captivate. This document does not describe the AICC standard or its benefits. There are a number of other articles in the Macromedia Developer Center site that may provide this information for you. In addition, to better understand some of the terminology in this document and to view links to other informative sites, you may want to visit the Macromedia E-Learning website.
To complete this tutorial you will need to install the following software and files:
Sample files are available for each of the tracking mechanisms available in Captivate. The sample files provide you with both source and packaged files for each option. You can view the source to see how I created the project and to see what is published and/or distributed for each of the tracking mechanisms. Since the content that’s provided for you has already been tested in each of the tracking environments, you can test the existing content in your environment(s) before comparing the results of creating and publishing your own Captivate content.
You can download the sample content for the AICC tracking mechanism (see the other articles published to the Captivate Developer Center to understand and download other tracking mechanism example files). To use the content, download the sample content from the link below (they are all available in .zip format and may require you to install an extraction program such as WinZip. Extract the contents into a directory. You can find additional information in the ReadMe.txt documents in the extracted files.
