Connecting to a database with ColdFusion

Dynamic content on the web is no longer a luxury: It is a necessity. With ColdFusion, generating dynamic content by accessing a database is easy. Moreover, it can help you offer your customers higher quality content, while at the same time making site maintenance easier. This article introduces you to database connectivity with ColdFusion and Dreamweaver using the ColdFusion Extensions for Dreamweaver. These extensions are available as an optional installation after you install ColdFusion.

In this article, you will learn how to do the following:

  • Connect to a database
  • Query a database
  • Display query results on a web page

This article covers just a small portion of the instructor-led Fast Track to ColdFusion course offered by a global network of training providers. If you like what you see and want to get the full experience, find instructor-led courses near you. During instructor-led courses, will you learn from instructors thoroughly trained and certified by Adobe. In my opinion, you can learn more in a few days with a qualified trainer than you can learn in a year with a book. For more information, visit the Adobe Training and Adobe Certification Professional Program pages.

Note: Although these requirements work for a development environment, they are not adequate for hosting a production-level site.
