MobTvG: Best Practices for Mobile Navigation
MobTvG—A Mobile TV Guide
MobTvG provides UK TV schedules for a variety of channels. The application also takes advantage of the built-in functions offered in the Flash Lite 1.1 ActionScript library. The ability to send program reminders through text messages and set multiple alerts were all accomplished with Flash Lite 1.1, and together they form a key part of the application.
Most conventional TV guides provide a great deal of information, including dates and times, channels, and program descriptions. I was aware that the MobTvG application would need to load vast amounts of data.
My aim was to achieve a good balance between interaction and navigation and apply that to mobile phones, so the application could be used by anybody. And using Flash Lite 1.1 enabled me to make the application visually appealing. Figure 1 shows the detailed TV listing information provided for MobTvG.

Flash Lite 1.1 is based on the Flash 4 syntax, so the majority of the current ActionScript library has been removed. Class creation, object usage, array building, and neatly packaged functions are prohibited.
