Developing Flash Lite for BREW applications for Verizon Wireless

Becoming an authorized Qualcomm BREW developer

Becoming an authorized BREW developer is a rather straightforward process that takes approximately five to eight business days and costs $400 annually. Authorization allows you to download the BREW tools suite, download Flash Lite for BREW extensions for the handsets that you are developing for, generate a test .sig (signature) file, and be able to digitally notarize up to 100 applications. Additionally, authorization will allow you access to BREW marketing collateral, NSTL registration, and the Qualcomm BREW developer extranet.

To become a commercial BREW Developer you must be authenticated. The process consists of four parts:

  1. Applying for the Authentic Document ID for BREW
  2. Completing the BREW ISV registration form and reviewing and accepting the BREW Developer Agreement
  3. Registering with the BREW 3rd Party Test House, NSTL
  4. Reviewing operator guidelines

Step 1: Applying for the VeriSign Authentic Document Digital ID. You can apply for the Authentic Document ID for BREW. This process requires you to use a Windows-based PC with Internet Explorer because it installs software via an ActiveX control. Also note that you must apply for, pick up, and install your VeriSign Authentic Document ID on the same computer with the same version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Once you complete the application, VeriSign will go through its developer company verification process, which takes an average of five business days. Once the process is complete, an e-mail will be sent to you confirming your approval.

Step 2: Completing the BREW ISV registration form and reviewing and accepting the BREW Developer Agreement. After receiving approval from VeriSign for your authentic document ID for BREW, you will need to complete the BREW ISV registration form and accept the BREW Developer Agreement. After this process is complete, Qualcomm will send you an e-mail with instructions on how to gain access to the BREW developer extranet.

Step 3: Registering with the BREW 3rd Party Test House (NSTL). Once you have accepted the BREW Developer Agreement, you must register with NSTL. You will need to allow one business day from the time that you first log on to the BREW Developer Extranet to the time that you register with NSTL. To register with NSTL, go to www.nstl.com/nstl/index.htm.

Step 4: Reviewing operator guidelines. Verizon Wireless requires that you sign a developer contract and become an authorized Verizon Wireless developer before it will accept BREW application on its commercial catalog. The BREW content guidelines for Verizon Wireless are as follows:
