As you know, Macromedia Flash lets you to create some very cool content in the form of animation, rich media, and revolutionary user interfaces. Flash content can provide a passive experience—something people watch—or it can enable interactive experiences.

When developing for mobile devices with Flash, it’s also possible to interact with native device applications and media files that reside on a handset through ActionScript. By doing so, you add more capabilities to your applications and provide for a unique user experience.

What You Will Learn

In this presentation I cover several topics and provide several tools that will help you as you begin programming Flash files that interact with handset functions:

  • Third-party applications you should use to assist you when developing your content
  • How to interact with native device functions to:

    • Dial a telephone number
    • Invoke the phone’s camera
    • Launch an MP3 file
    • Playback a video file (3GP)
  • Sample ActionScript code that shows you it's not that difficult to do this type of device integration with your content. (You can download them at the link at the bottom of this page.)
