Creating iRiver U10 Games for Beginners

Settings for creating content

Before creating content, you should set up an environment suitable for Flash Lite 1.1 on the iRiver U10. In the following steps, you will set the following three elements:

  • Screen size setting
  • Publish setting
  • Test device setting

Let's get started:

  1. Launch Flash Professional 8 and select Global Phones from the Create from Template list (see Figure 2).

  2. In the New from Template dialog box, make sure the Templates tab is at the front and then select Flash Lite 1.1 - Symbian Series 60 (see Figure 3). It's not the specification that matches the U10 device, but I will use it in this tutorial.

  3. Click OK to create the new document from this template.
  4. In the Property inspector, make sure the default settings match what's shown in Figure 4.

  5. Because the test device is not currently set to 320 x 240 pixels for the screen size, the actual screen size may be smaller. You can, however, address this problem by updating or adjusting the device.

Click the Size button in the Property inspector and change the following properties in the Document Properties dialog box (see Figure 5):

    • Modify the screen size to 320 x 240.
    • Set Frame Rate to 15 (a frame rate between 12 and 15 is recommended for the U10 device).
    • Change the background color to #A6E840.
    • Click OK to accept the changes.
    Modify Document Properties

  6. Click the Publish Setting button in the Property inspector and ensure that the Version option is set to Flash Lite 1.1. Click OK.

The device profile for the iRiver U10 is not yet available. For the device profile updates, visit the Device Profile Updates page on the Adobe website. Once the iRiver device profile is added, you will be able to set the profile for the U10 by clicking the Device Settings button in the Property inspector and choosing U10 in the iRiver folder.

  7. Save this file as game_step1.fla.
