Macromedia Flash Lite is a new profile that has been developed for mobile phones. Flash Lite uses Macromedia 5 objects and Flash 4 ActionScript. Flash Lite currently is embedded in all NTT DoCoMo i-mode series mobile phones, and provides the ability to play screen savers and Flash movies.
In this article, I discuss some of the challenges my company, Ynot, faced when we tried to port our Flash 4-based content to Flash Lite, and provide some tips on how to create Flash content for the new DoCoMo 505i Series mobile phones.
To complete this tutorial you will need to install the following software and files:
Ynot provides personalized animated e-cards to Internet users. Our current catalog consists of some 3,000 cards, which makes us one of the largest e-card providers in the world. Our cards mainly consist of frame-by-frame animations, although some cards also consist of complex scripting-based game content, and are Macromedia Flash 4 compatible. If you want to get a feel for the types of content we create, visit our website.
In addition to our Internet service, we also provide e-card services for all of the mobile phone carriers in Japan through our i-mode compatible Internet site. Until recently, however, we had to use GIF or PNG files for our mobile phone services instead of Flash movies. Since the release of Macromedia Flash Lite, however, things have changed. Flash Lite enables us to create animated e-cards for handsets that are comparable to our Internet-based services and thus extend our experience in Internet-based e-card services to the mobile phone market.
