i-mode
NTT DoCoMo
i-mode is Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo's proprietary 2G/3G mobile Internet platform. i-mode is Japan’s first and largest data service for mobile phone users.
With i-mode, cellular phone users get easy access to more than tens of thousands of Internet sites, as well as specialized services such as e-mail, online shopping and banking, ticket reservations, and restaurant advice. I-mode has attracted more than 43 million subscribers (as of January 16, 2005) since its introduction in February 1999.
A growing number of English sites offer highly convenient instant access to information, and entertainment, plus extremely convenient mobile transactions.
Macromedia Flash Lite: Beginning with the 505i series mobile phones, every i-mode handset has included this Macromedia Flash profile. Designed specifically for use in mobile phones, Flash Lite uses Flash 5 objects and Flash 4 Actionscript. Future i-mode phones will have Macromedia Flash Lite embedded within the browser for seamless online experiences and integrated into other applications enabling SWF content to be used as a screen saver or ringtone.
Note: not every NTT DoCoMo phone includes the Macromedia Flash profile.

GSM/GPRS i-mode
Outside Japan, many users are now enjoying i-mode services via GSM networks in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan and Greece.

i-mode Distribution within Japan
i-mode is the world's largest wireless data service. With over 43 million subscribers (as of January 16, 2005), it represents a huge market for content authors.
Note: 505i handsets do not work outside of Japan, but with the emulator provided by NTT DoCoMo and the Macromedia Flash MX updates provided by Macromedia, designers outside of Japan can create and prototype Flash Lite content.
