Introduction

Adobe® Digital Publishing Suite is a hosted solution with three editions that share much of the same publishing functionality. The Professional and Enterprise editions add distribution, monetization, and measurement capabilities.

  • Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition is for individual designers and small design studios that need to publish a single application.
  • Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition is for medium-sized media companies and ad agencies that need an off-the-shelf solution.
  • Digital Publishing Suite, Enterprise Edition is for larger media corporations, brand organizations, and ad holding companies that need a custom solution.

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition is designed for individual designers and small design studios that need to publish single applications, such as brochures, annual reports, personal portfolios, and other content that does not require frequent updates. Some key features include:

  • Designers can create Apple iPad applications with Adobe InDesign CS5.5 at an affordable price without writing code.
  • Designers can use their familiar InDesign CS5.5 skills to explore new creative territory.
  • Designers can offer extended design services to clients.

Individuals and small businesses can publish full-featured interactive content easily with the tools in InDesign CS5.5 and the capabilities of Single Edition. Here are some examples of the type of publications that you can create using Single Edition.

  • Hang Gliding (a safety brochure that is a brand loyalty application)
  • Mascord Living Spaces (a merchandising application that highlights architecture designs for use with prospective clients)

Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition

Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition is intended for traditional media, business publishers, and ad agencies that need an off-the-shelf solution. Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition offers:

  • A turnkey solution that enables publishers to develop and maintain relationships with readers.
  • The ability to publish branded applications for Apple iPad, Android, and Amazon Kindle Fire tablets.
  • Prebuilt analytic reports and integration with Adobe Digital Marketing Suite (Adobe SiteCatalyst).

Analytics Service benefits

The Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Analytics Service provides more visibility into how users interact with digital content. Analyses are more frequent, more timely, and provide a greater level of detail than traditional measurement techniques. The payoff: Businesses can make more informed decisions about their digital publishing initiatives, delivering greater return on investment (ROI) by optimizing for maximum engagement and driving premium advertising sales.

The Digital Publishing Suite Analytics Service provides several important features for publishers who use either the Professional or Enterprise Editions of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, including:

  • Out-of-the-box reports tailored to digital publishers
  • Foundation-level analytics for measuring application usage, issue purchasing, and content usage, including interactive overlays and top ads
  • Automatic, preconfigured measurement of reader interactions with digital publications, without needing to manually tag content
  • Offline data collection to help ensure that all activities are measured, even if the user’s device is not connected to the Internet; the device stores the data and uploads it when the user reconnects to the Internet.

Digital Publishing Suite Professional and Enterprise editions are not just for magazine and newspaper publishers. Business publishers are also creating innovative applications. For example, Boxoffice Media uses Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition to develop Boxoffice Weekly, an engaging digital magazine for the iPad that delights moviegoers nationwide. The inventive media company creates a weekly digital magazine in only three days that immerses readers in upcoming movie releases. Read more in the Boxoffice Media:

Digital Publishing Suite, Enterprise Edition

Digital Publishing Suite, Enterprise Edition is designed for large media and brand organizations, and ad holding companies that need a custom tablet publishing solution. Digital Publishing Suite, Enterprise Edition includes all the benefits of Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition, plus the following features.

Direct entitlement

Direct entitlement helps publishers accelerate digital readership by enabling powerful and customizable ways to make specific pieces of content accessible to customers based on business rules. The following uses of entitlement can help drive digital readership and enable upselling and cross-selling of additional content and products, driving both subscription and advertising revenue.

  • Print and digital bundling—Digital Publishing Suite integrates with publisher’s print-fulfillment systems to make tablet content available to existing print subscribers. Supported back-end systems include solutions from CDS-Global (a Hearst Company), Time Customer Service (TCS), and Palm Coast Data (PCD).
  • Direct sales of digital subscriptions—In addition to supporting subscriptions purchased through application stores such as iTunes, Digital Publishing Suite allows publishers to sell digital subscriptions directly to consumers (for example, via the publisher’s website), enabling publishers to establish a relationship with their readers. By selling subscriptions directly to readers, publishers can capture key information about their customers and establish loyalty.
  • Promotions—Publishers can leverage entitlement to offer promotional content such as a single back issue as a sample issue to anyone who downloads the free viewer application. Publishers can also distribute promotional codes to allow readers to unlock specific issues.
  • Custom access control—Entitlement allows publishers to make specific issues available to certain readers. Traditional consumer magazine publishers could offer special issues to specific customers. Alternatively, business or corporate publishers can make specified pieces of content available to users or members of an organization based on login credentials.

Custom storefront

A custom storefront provides publishers with the ability to customize the merchandising of content to readers within their Digital Publishing Suite viewer application. Within a custom store, the publisher owns all display decisions ranging from colors, fonts, layout, and descriptions. A custom store also provides access to analytics data to ensure that the publisher’s marketing strategies are delivering the expected results. Publishers can continually modify and optimize the store contents without redeploying the application, giving publishers the ability to improve or modify, as marketing and analytic feedback requires.

Access to custom stores can be provided in one of the custom slots available within a viewer’s navigation bar. Custom store views are full-screen HTML pages owned by the publisher, providing links to special offers and additional subscriptions. Users access the custom views through the bottom bar displayed every time a user opens the application.

In a custom storefront, a publisher can immerse a consumer in the brand and the experience of a magazine title. The publisher can leverage the same marketing techniques leveraged on a public website to drive subscription revenue, sell single issues, and promote other titles. Adobe has created an opportunity for publishers to directly impact the revenue they make from their digital titles by allowing complete control over how they market to their customers.
