Fireworks CS3 makes it really easy to mock up a website without touching even one line of code. I thought it would be instructive to demonstrate this workflow by creating a quick, clean, generic website using only Fireworks. The Website Layout sample file (freetemplate.png) contains all the pages for this website—all linked together and ready to be exported for a quick visual preview before coding even begins.

The two images in the Logos.png sample file show the ability of Fireworks CS3 to create clean, attractive vector logos in a very short amount of time. I used the new Paths panel in Fireworks CS3 to create the triangular graphic. The panel allows me to round the edges of the triangle with one click. Completing this design would have required a steady hand and much more time without the Paths panel.

Ryan Smith (aka Zero) lives in a small town in rural Missouri, not too far from the University of Missouri, Rolla, where he plans to study computer science. In the meantime he designs graphics for websites and interfaces. Ryan first became interested in doing computer graphics about three years ago when he studied web design in high school. Since that time he has worked hard to excel at it. Now it's his turn to share the wealth with the Developer Center audience.
