Adobe AIR is a cross-operating system runtime used in Flash Professional to publish games and applications to desktop, mobile (Android and iOS), and TV platforms. The AIR runtime allows Flash developers to easily port their work to screens and devices using the skills they already know building internet applications.
AIR includes extended ActionScript APIs capable of manipulating desktop features as well as mobile features. Flash Professional CS6 (AIR 3) also includes the ability to use native extensions capable of implementing device-specific functionality such as gyroscope or platform specific features such as in-app purchases. Flash CS6 also includes the ability to manage multiple versions of the AIR SDK using the Help > Manage AIR SDK option.
You can create an AIR file by creating a new FLA file and choosing the AIR, AIR for Android, or AIR for iOS option, or you switch the publishing target for the FLA in the Properties panel (see Figure 1).
See the Adobe AIR Developer Center for more information about the AIR runtime.
