Flash glossary: Pencil tool
Use the Pencil tool in Adobe Flash Professional when you want to draw lines and shapes. It is used in much the same way as you would use a real pencil to draw on a piece of paper. To apply smoothing or straightening to the lines and shapes as you draw, select a drawing mode for the Pencil tool in the bottom of the Tools panel.
To access the Pencil tool, select it in the Tools panel.
To draw with the Pencil tool, follow these steps:
- Select the Pencil tool.
- Select Window > Properties and select a stroke color, line weight, and style.
- Select a drawing mode under Options in the Tools panel:
- Straighten draws straight lines and converts approximations of triangles, ovals, circles, rectangles, and squares into these common geometric shapes.
- Smooth draws smooth curved lines.
- Ink draws freehand lines with no modification applied.
- To draw straight lines with the Pencil tool, Shift-drag to constrain lines to either a vertical or horizontal direction.
