Flash video offers a wide range of options for you to employ on and off the Internet. Unlike other web video formats, the Adobe Flash video (FLV) format is not simply one that plays in an audio/video player like Windows Media, QuickTime, and Real Player formats do, with limited interactivity. Because Flash video is treated like any other external asset to Adobe Flash Player, you need to create your own video player in ActionScript or use a pre-existing component or library in order to control a Flash video experience.

Adobe Flash CS3 Professional Video Studio Techniques by Robert Reinhardt explains how you can integrate Flash video with other Flash content and use several techniques to play one or more Flash video files. This complete chapter shows you how to amalgamate the requirements for successful Flash video deployment. From encoding multiple bit rates to ActionScript 3.0 development to JavaScript-based Flash Player detection, this chapter teaches you how to plan and execute a web-based Flash video experience.
