Taking Flash Animation to DVD Video

The Future

On November 4, 2004—after nearly nine months of 'round-the-clock panic, countless 20-or-more-hour days, and three agonizing weeks of waiting to test the masters, the DVD set was officially ready for release. Following a gala launch party in Vancouver, Canada, we embarked on the next crucial stage—distribution. Online sales from our custom e-commerce shop have been steady since it was launched, and we're currently in the final stages of negotiations with brick-and-mortar distributors in North America and Europe.

Support from the Flash community has been essential, and we can't thank enough the folks at Flashkit (Flash developer resource), Flash in the Can (Canada's premiere Flash Festival), and Newgrounds (Flash animation portal extraordinaire). The glowing reviews have been a big help, too. In fact, kind words from critics have been largely responsible for securing early Video On Demand deals and more heated discussions with studios and publishers regarding the possibility of a video game version, miniseries, or feature film.

When all is said and done, however, we just hope that Broken Saints—both the original Flash version and the deluxe DVD edition—can inspire creators and storytellers to harness these incredible modern tools and touch the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere with their work. Our tiny team of mavericks is positive proof that it is possible to do it yourself, and to make a lasting impact if you're committed to your vision.
