Yes, Macromedia has been working on an updater for the English version of Flash MX 2004 and Flash MX Professional 2004 to improve stability, priority bugs, and performance. This work has been done in conjunction with the international releases of Flash Macromedia is shipping.
- Will there be an update to the international language versions of Flash MX 2004?

Only the French- and German-language versions require an update. Users who purchase or download trial versions of the French- and German-language products within the first two weeks of shipment should download and install the update. After approximately two weeks, those products will be fully updated and the update will no longer be required.
- When will the Flash MX 2004 update be available?

The update is available now, from the Flash Support download page. The version number for the updated release is 7.0.1. If you have a product with a version number of 7.0, you should install the update for the corresponding language.
- How can I get the Flash MX 2004 update?

There are two ways to receive the update:
- If you already use Flash MX 2004, you can download the update for free from the Flash Support download page.
- If you purchase a new box of Flash MX 2004, check the version number. If it is not Macromedia Flash MX 2004 7.0.1 you should download and install the update.

Since the launch of Flash MX 2004, Macromedia has been listening to customers and the update is in response to the issues identified by the Flash community. The Flash community has identified bugs and lack of documentation as key problem areas in the Flash MX 2004 release, and Macromedia has quickly responded with the fixes and extra guidance required to help those customers be successful.
- What is in the Flash MX 2004 update?

There are three key areas of improvement to the product in this update:
- Fixes for the most important bugs identified in the Flash MX 2004 release. Read the details in the release notes.
- Improved and extended guidance both in the in-product Help documentation and through the Flash Developer Center.
- Many product extras such as updated components to work with Flash MX 2004 and Flash Player 7, including Flash MX components, Remoting components, and Flash Communication Server components. These will be released over the next month. Watch the Flash Developer Center for updates on release plans and downloads.
- DevNet Resource Kit (DRK) components have also been updated to be compatible with Flash MX 2004, Flash MX Professional 2004, and Flash Player 7. For more information see the FAQ for the DRK components.
The French and German updates include only a few minor administrative bug fixes, because all of the bug fixes in the English update have been rolled into these products.

This update does not add any new functionality to Flash MX 2004. For the English version, the focus has been on improving stability, fixes for the most important bugs, and overall performance of both Flash MX 2004 and Flash MX Professional 2004. The updates to the French and German products include only very small number of mostly administrative bug fixes.

Yes, Macromedia announced the availability of French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese language versions of the product. These products are available through the Macromedia online stores.
- Will international customers require the update?

Users of the French and German versions of Flash MX 2004 should download and install the corresponding French and German product updates. All other localized versions of Flash will ship with the updates included in the install. No update install will be required.
Users of the English version should install the English update.

Macromedia has updated the Flash SWF file format specification for changes made in Flash MX 2004. It will be available from the Developer Center by the end of November 2003.

The Flash MX components have been updated to work with Flash MX 2004 and Flash Player 7. These components enable you to migrate your Flash MX projects to Flash MX 2004 and Flash Player 7. The components are written in ActionScript 1.0 and are not compatible with the version 2 component framework that the MX 2004 components use. They are direct ports of the original components. These components will be available by end of November, 2003.
- Are there new Flash Remoting components for Flash MX 2004?

Yes, Macromedia has released updated versions of the Flash Remoting components for Flash MX 2004 and Flash Player 7. These components were released with Flash MX 2004 in September. These components are written in ActionScript 1.0.
Macromedia also released French and German versions of those components, available now.
Macromedia is dedicated to supporting Flash Remoting in the future. Macromedia is in a final evaluation process for updating the Flash Remoting components to ActionScript 2.0 and providing other support for Flash Remoting in Flash MX 2004. Plans will be announced on the Flash Developer Center soon.
