This month’s featured Macromedia Flash MX community site is FlashKit.com—one of the largest and most active Flash community sites on the Internet.

FlashKit.com

Name : FlashKit
URL: http://www.flashkit.com
Founded : October 1999
Features : Forums (350,000 users) and Resources (over 10,000 downloads available)

Mark Fennel founded Flashkit in 1999 to create a Flash resource site useful to all Flash developers. His original goal was to make Flashkit a one-stop shop for a variety of Flash resources (including sound samples, tutorials, and FLAs) and to help foster a Flash user community.

Today FlashKit is one of the top Flash resource and community sites on the web. Its resources include:

  • Over 500 tutorials
  • Thousands of downloadable Flash movie source files
  • Over 5000 soundclips
  • Web-based forums

Its forums are some of the most active on the web. They have nearly 370,000 users, over 340,000 topics, and 1.5 million posts—with some of the top Flash developers in the world participating on a daily basis. The web forums alone are some of the top resources on Macromedia Flash anywhere. Virtually any question can be answered by searching through the Flashkit forums; in the rare case when you have a question that has not already been answered, you can always post it in one of the forums.

Try visiting some of these FlashKit web forums:

FlashMX: Discussion and help forum for Macromedia Flash MX, with a focus on ActionScript.

Flash Video: All topics pertaining to Macromedia Flash MX and video.

Communication Server MX: Forum to discuss Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX.

Scripting and Backend: Forum for discussing connecting Macromedia Flash with the server (including Flash Remoting).

Coffee Lounge: A great place to hang out and chat with other Flash developers about pretty much anything.

However, as mentioned above, FlashKit is comprised of more than just forums. It also contains tons of downloadable Flash source files, as well as thousands of tutorials. Here are some highlights:

With the incredible amount of traffic that the website receives, FlashKit’s webmaster, John Starkey, stays busy making sure that FlashKit continues to grow, perform, and implement new features. No doubt FlashKit will also continue to be one of the best resources for the Flash community.
