For the first time ever, Adobe will host an online Developer Week conference, June 12–16, to share with developers the background and significance behind the Adobe Engagement Platform—and provide real-world sessions to illustrate how the platform works, the Adobe products it comprises—such as Flex—and its impact on the developer community.

What is the Engagement Platform and why should you be interested in learning more? Built around Adobe PDF, Adobe Flash, and HTML technology, the platform comprises a number of key elements:

  • Cross-platform, cross-browser, cross-device clients with universal capabilities (PDF, HTML, SWF)
  • Composite-driven programming model that delivers predictable experience and performance across a number of environments
  • Server frameworks that contain a rich collection of capabilities that can be used to accelerate the development of compelling, relevant, and actionable applications—including document, policy, forms management, communication, and collaboration services
  • Tools for the developer such as Flex Builder and for the designer such as Web Suite, Studio 8, and Form Manager

The free Adobe Developer Week conference—to be delivered online via Adobe Breeze—will be divided into three one-hour sessions per day, Monday through Friday. The conference is designed so that participants can elect to attend any or all of the sessions. Because they don't build on each other, there is no need to attend the first sessions in order to participate in those toward the end of the week. Each session will feature a live demo, and end with a Q&A so that attendees can get their questions answered by the presenters in real time.

Todd Hay, Director of Platform Marketing and Developer Relations, will kick off the first day of the conference with a session on the Engagement Platform. Many of the sessions throughout the week will cover Adobe Flex, a powerful product line for creating rich Internet applications, and Adobe LiveCycle, a suite of document services built on the J2EE platform that can integrate into existing .NET or ColdFusion environments.

Here's a sampling of sessions:

  • "Introduction to Developing with Flex" with Ted Patrick, Adobe Technical Evangelist
  • "Introduction to Adobe LiveCycle" with Mike Potter, Adobe Product Marketing Manager
  • "Enterprise Development with Flex Builder and Flex Data Services" with James Ward, Adobe Engineer
  • "ColdFusion as a Flex Back End" with me (Ben Forta), Adobe Product Evangelist
  • "Building Applications Using LiveCycle and Flex" with Ray Blaak of Ensemble Systems, an Adobe LiveCycle Partner

There are many more.

As a thank-you for participating in Adobe Developer Week, all participants will be entered to win a copy of Flex Builder each day. Plus, two additional participants will win an iRiver H10 MP3 Player, and a Sennheiser wireless headset.

We're looking forward to seeing you online at Adobe Developer Week.
