The Macromedia Flash Lite Content Contest is a response to the growing demand for content and applications for mobile devices. The goal is to encourage Flash developers to build dynamic, engaging, and easy-to-use content for Flash Lite–enabled handsets and to experience the ease with which developers can author and port rich interactive Flash-based content for mobile handsets.
Why go mobile? And why use Macromedia Flash? The short answer is: Because it makes business sense. Much of the challenges that plague current mobile application development stem from the lack of device homogeneity. Mobile phones differ in terms of displays, processors, and input methods, making it difficult for mobile developers to create the type of rich and easy-to-use interactive content consumers demand in a time- and cost-efficient manner. Using Flash and Flash Lite, however, developers can create applications, content, and video that can be delivered across various environments.
Think of Flash Lite as a trimmed-down version of Flash Player that can play Flash content on mobile devices. Beyond its small footprint, Flash Lite also provides a host of benefits to developers, including a single platform that helps speed up development time and keep development costs low. And no one is better positioned than Flash developers to respond to the fast-growing demand for rich multimedia experiences that is spurred by the growing number of Flash-enabled consumer products.
The Macromedia Flash Lite Content Contest invites you to explore new market opportunities and express your creativity with Flash Lite. There are no restrictions as to what you can develop as long as your content fits one of the following seven (excluding Most Innovative) categories:
Entries will be judged by a committee of Flash Lite experts from the Macromedia mobile and devices marketing, product management, and engineering teams based on usability, presentation, functionality, and usefulness. First-place winners in each category will receive a 20GB iPod. The winner with the highest total score will be awarded the grand prize—a 42-inch Sony plasma TV.
In addition, all qualifying entries will be showcased on mobile.macromedia.com, and those with the most promising content could be introduced to mobile phone operators for a chance to distribute their innovative content and monetize on their efforts.
