| Once
you insert the Sony Memory Stick into your Sony CLIÉ,
you'll most likely need to create a specific directory on
the Memory Stick. This is very important. If you do not
create this directory, Macromedia Flash Player will not
be able to find the files.
|
| |
| You
can do this in a few ways. |
| |
| You
can use the desktop application that is installed when you
installed the desktop software for your CLIÉ called
“MS Export”. If it's not installed, run the CD
that came with the CLIÉ and install it before proceeding.
If you run MS Export on the desktop and run MS Import on the
CLIÉ, you can transfer files (like Macromedia Flash
SWF files) to the device. If the MMFlash directory has not
been created, MS Export will create one for you. |

| |
| On
the device you can also run the “CLIÉ Files”
utility and make new directories as well. Consult the manual
on using CLIÉ Files for more information. It's really
just as simple as tapping the menu in the application and
then tapping “New Dir” while in the /PALM/Programs/
directory, as shown in Figure 6. |

| |
| Now
that you have a directory, you need a SWF file. |
| |
| If
you don't have a sample SWF to use, do not worry. There's
a great game included on the Sony CLIÉ NX Series CD.
There's also a SWF file included with the sample
files available for download on the first page of this
tutorial. |
| |
| Or
if you prefer, you can right-click (Windows) or option-click
(Macintosh) on the link below. Windows users should choose
“Save target as…” from the context menu
to save this sample file to your local system. |

|
| |
| The
other method for getting a SWF involves simply starting the
Memory Stick Import application on the CLIÉ. This method
will work as long as you installed the MS Export application
and other included software. For Macintosh users, you'll need
to use MissingSync, which is available from http://www.markspace.com/missingsync.html.
MissingSync will mount your Memory Stick as a volume. |
| |
| When
using MS Import, the CLIÉ handheld will be recognized
as a removable drive. Copy the Macromedia Flash content to
the /PALM/PROGRAMS/MMFlash/ folder using the Windows Explorer
or the Finder (for Macintosh users). If a folder does not
exist in this location, create one now. |

| |
| Here's
a good tip for desktop users: If you'd like to see the file
extension (.swf) you can turn this feature on in Windows.
(Macintosh users should be able to see the file extension
already). You don't need to see the file extension, but some
users find it very useful. On your Windows machine, go to
the File View in a folder. Select Tools > Folder Options.
Click View Tab and uncheck the “Hide extensions for
known file types” box. |

|
| |
| Now
let's go over using Macromedia Flash Player on your CLIÉ. |
