Leveraging the user-defined variables feature in RoboHelp 7

User-defined variables are a new addition to Adobe RoboHelp and incredibly easy to use. Using Adobe RoboHelp 6 and 7, you can set up your own variables and update common terms on a global scale within the RoboHelp interface.

This article introduces the user-defined variables feature set available in RoboHelp 7. The goal of this article is to provide a basic introduction for beginners as well as covering some of the more advanced capabilities for authors who want to push user-defined variables to a new level.

This article covers the following topics:

  • Setting up user-defined variables for the basic global replacement of common terms, such as brand names and product names and numeric values.
  • Working with user-defined variables using the RoboHelp interface.
  • Setting up and using different sets of variable values for different single-source layouts.

This tutorial includes a sample RoboHelp project that illustrates some of the advanced techniques for working with user-defined variables. Download the sample files in the Requirements section to follow these instructions.
