MPSB05-14 Cumulative Security Updater for ColdFusion MX 7
Originally posted: December 15, 2005
Summary
This is a cumulative security updater for ColdFusion MX 7 server that includes all previously released patches.
Affected Software Versions
ColdFusion MX 7.0
Severity Rating
Adobe categorizes this issue as a important issue and recommends users patch their installations.
Details
This cumulative security updater contains the following security patches:
JRun Clustered Sandbox Security Vulnerability
ColdFusion Sandbox security relies on the Java SecurityManager. When ColdFusion is running on a JRun 4 cluster member and the SecurityManager is disabled, Sandbox security silently fails without throwing an exception, allowing a local attacker to use restricted functionally. In addition, a remote attacker using an application setup to use Sandbox security could potentially bypass security controls.
CFMAIL injection Vulnerability
An application written to use the CFMAIL tag could be used to attach arbitrary files and send mail with any content. This is due to improper input validation in the "Subject" field.
CFOBJECT Sandbox Security Vulnerability
Setting CFOBJECT /CreateObject(Java) to be disabled in Sandbox security has no effect, allowing a local attacker to still create an object.
Administrator Hash Exposure Vulnerability
The password hash used to authenticate the ColdFusion Administrator is exposed via an API call, allowing a local developer to obtain the hash and authenticate as Administrator.
Solution
Adobe has released an updater to address several security issues.
NOTE: Back up your existing files before making changes. As always, test the changes in a non-production environment before applying the changes to production servers.
ColdFusion MX 7.0
Upgrade to ColdFusion MX 7.0.1.
