Janis Joplin Kozmic Blues Timeline

Objective: Janis Joplin is a legend. There have been many books published about her life, however none of them capture the Kozmic Blues, a theme which was very present throughout her musical career, and up until her death. I wanted to create a portrait of Janis through this timeline, that reflected the part of her personality that resinated through her deep blues music. This book uses various medias, and layers, to give each page depth. Personally assembled, each book produced was unique. Janis literally is “buried” under each timeline, with a gostly presence just barely showing through the layer of translucent paper. Truely a labor of love.

Tools used: I scanned in each image in Adobe® Photoshop®, and cleaned them up, all taken from poorly printed older books about Janis. I then created the page layout in Adobe InDesign®, and used the transparency feature to help me create the layered look i desired. (huray for InDesign!) The template for the aluminum cover was also made in InDesign, and then i cut it out of the aluminum with a jewlers saw.
